Events

Every year staff and the 50 or so clients at the Stewart Centre @ EIT work together to organise a number of events. The planning, organisation and budgeting of such events are an integral part of client’s rehabilitation. Many life skills are learnt during the process and clients learn about themselves and their colleagues.

Stewart Centre @ EIT – Annual Trip

Each year the Stewart Centre @ EIT goes away for a six day trip. This year we will be travelling to Tauranga . While being a fun trip, it is also very much a part of clients rehabilitation. Many life skills, such as planning, budgeting and teamwork are gained by clients in organizing such a trip.

Clients are involved from day one. If clients are on the Social Committee they will be responsible, with the help of staff, for the organisation and smooth running of activities. Clients plan, fundraise and organise the whole trip. This is a great way for clients to gain skills in budgeting and planning. Clients also learn tolerance, how to manage fatigue, which can be an issue for some people with brain injuries, and in some cases, overcome mobility issues.

Once a year there is an exchange with the Manawatu Stewart Centre  and usually an overnight stay somewhere.
